CHOOSING YOUR COLOR THEME
COLOURlovers is an amazing user contributed site about colors, patterns & palettes. There is a lot to look at…very inspiring! There is also a great community forum to exchange ideas & ask for help.
Pantone is a universal color matching system used by all printers & designers. They have a great website with tons of helpful color ideas & combinations.
Fashion Trendsetter is a fashion trend reporting site. They have a great section devoted to color.
Martha Stewart has a great page devoted to wedding color palettes.
And of course, the magazine stand always has a good selection of color inspiration (high end decorating and wedding magazines are the best)!
If you plan to print your invitations on your home printer, be sure to print out a test page before sending the entire job to the printer. The color you see on your screen can vary significantly from the output on the page.
If you are planning to have your invitations printed at a press, you will need to specify Pantone colors as your ink colors. Pantone is a universal color matching system (PMS: Pantone Matching System). All printing presses use pantone colors, and will be able to almost perfectly match just about any color for you. You can look at Pantone colors online or in a pantone book. If you are a new designer, or think you may have many print jobs in your future, you may want to consider purchasing a pantone book. Otherwise I would recommend stopping into your local print shop for a glance through theirs. New pantone books are a little pricey, so if you’re okay with a used one I would suggest hitting up Ebay.
